For years, Laura Copeland and her two kids had a plan in case of an emergency. The children, Mitchell, 6, and Cora, 7, know that they need to call 911 if they sense that something is an emergency. The two kids are also legally blind.
But when Copeland woke up one day, she didn't remember anything. She saw her son hovering over her. She would later find out that she had a seizure, and that her children had saved her life. Cora knew that she had to call 911 when her mother collapsed.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the line, 911 dispatcher Laiken James was shocked to hear the little girl's voice on the phone. Even more surprising was how calm and collected she was, and how much information she was able to give about her mother's situation. At first, James didn't know how to address her, but then she remembered how she would talk to her two daughters at home, and was able to help Cora and Mitchell out.
Although she is thankful for her kids saving her life, Copeland isn't surprised by her fast-acting kids.
"You need to call this, this and this,” she recalled to WGEM about what she taught her little ones. “You need to do this, and call 911. They did everything they were taught."'
Please SHARE to commend these kids on their heroic actions!
