10-Year-Old Secretly Knits Hats For Needy Kids

Garrett Lowry is a 10-year-old baseball player. His teammates call him "Bam-Bam." Let's just say the kid is pretty sporty. However, he has one secret he's been keeping for a while now. It all began with a class project. The students had to knit caps for kids at the Children's Hospital Colorado. Lowry loved knitting the hats so much that he continued to make them to help children. He hasn't told any of his friends because he doesn't know what they'd say.

“Some people say it’s unusual, but it’s just a part of my life," Lowry told 9News. " I don’t know what they would say."

It almost doesn't matter what his friends will think. His mom and dad are so proud of what he is doing, and his mom and grandmother have joined the project.

“Not only taught him some things, but it teaches us some things, too," his father said.

Lowry knits the hats using different-size looms. He makes the caps for babies all the way to adult-sized. He just wants to do his part to help others.

“Going through that kind of thing might scare people, and I just want to make something that can make them more comfortable while they are in the hospital," said Lowry. “I want children to feel better about themselves. And feel that they are appreciated and that they’re loved."

What on Earth could be embarrassing about that?
