Families come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and creeds. No matter how a child finds his or her way into your home, every parent cherishes their little ones as a blessing. For the Holland family, it seemed like they had the complete package with their three children, Rachel, Isaac, and Ryan, scampering around the house.
Unfortunately, they hit a bump in the road when the youngest, Ryan, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just two years old. The toddler spent time in and out of hospitals and was subjected to countless tests and procedures. While many out there might see this hardship and feel defeated, the Hollands found strength in caring for their son. It certainly wasn't easy to see their baby boy in such a frustrating circumstance, of course, but mom Angela found herself inspired by Ryan. As he recovered, it dawned on her and husband Andrew that if they were able to cope with this strife and come out on the other side even closer, that was something they could offer to another child in need.
Angela, who explains how she was "filled with courage," and her family soon found themselves researching adoption options. They had their heart set on bringing another little girl into their home, but when the agency told them about a young boy in China with special needs, they knew they'd found their son. Ethan was born with a hole in his heart and suffered from developmental delays, but that didn't stop the Hollands from hopping on a plane with Rachel to bring the sweet tyke home.
