Sometimes, the biggest acts of kindness can come in the smallest packages.
When we see a 3-year-old donate her hair to kids with cancer, or a young boy paying for police officers' lunch to show appreciation, it's a foolproof way to make a heart happy and prove that some kids are truly being raised by great parents. In this case, it's not just one child doing something incredibly nice — it's a whole classroom of them.
In Collinsville, IL, a second-grade class includes two young boys who have cancer diagnoses. When we hear Santiago Quevedo and Dorrian Blackwell tell us their cancer diagnoses, we couldn't help but feel heartbroken. The boys sometimes have to miss school because of their chemotherapy treatments, and when they're gone? Their classmates miss them and make sure that they feel special whenever they return to school.
One day, their classmates took their love for these two boys to a new level. They decided to help kids with cancer by collecting over 2,400 books to give in order to brighten some patients' day. But what they had to give up in order to do this is what makes this story so special.
Who knew second graders could define selflessness so well in their actions?
