When you're a young family, the whole future is somewhat of a blank slate; an expanse of unknowns. You can have a long-term plan, you can set goals to achieve, but you never really know exactly what life is going to throw your way. Sometimes the surprises are wonderful and cheerful, and other times they are roadblocks that you and your loved ones will have to find a way to overcome.
Through thick and thin, it's important to remember what's the most important thing: family.
This little boy named Jake was hoping that life would throw one very specific surprise in the direction of him and his parents. For years, he'd been hoping that some day he'd become a big brother. He's such a caring and considerate 6-year-old, that this is what he wished his family would become. All he wanted was a sibling to care for and love.
Then, one day, Mom sat him down in the living room and started handing him note cards to read out loud. When she tells him to look at his T-shirt, he didn't realize that she didn't mean the one already on his back…
