Betty White The 200-Pound Loggerhead Turtle Is Released Back Into The Wild

Back in December, wildlife rescue workers discovered a gigantic loggerhead sea turtle that appeared to be having “floatation issues.” When they pulled her from the Loxahatchee River, it was clear that the poor thing was extremely sick and needed immediate care. They named her Betty White, and with good reason — she’s sweet-natured, yet a fighter to her core.

The team from the Loggerhead Marinelife Center were quick to tend to her needs, and just recently, they announced that Betty would be released back into the wild again. A crowd of hundreds gathered on Juno Beach in Florida to see her safely off. With a satellite-linked transmitter on her back to track her movements, this majestic creature happily waded back into the murky waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

There’s no shortage of uplifting sea turtle stories here at LittleThings! Hunter was the 210-pound loggerhead found with fishing hooks in his shoulder, and another wild sea turtle was seen disoriented on the beach. Both have since made full recoveries!

One woman said the sight of Betty leaving had inspired her to become a volunteer for wildlife rescue workers, and another boy snappily added that "it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" to witness a rehabilitated sea turtle being set free again.
