Moms and dads want to do everything to protect their babies, and that often includes getting the best equipment they can possibly afford. That means getting the safest toys, the best cribs, and the most expensive strollers. The presumption is that the most expensive equipment is the best.
But when it comes down to some of these things, that isn't always the case. This season, parents have a whole new hidden danger to look out for: The sun.
This doesn't just mean protecting children from dangerous UV rays by slathering sunscreen on their skin and adding layer upon layer of protective clothing. It also means buying the right stroller — and in the summer months, more expensive doesn't always mean the best.
Those $200 strollers are often dark-colored and sit lower to the ground than others, and these features are what experts are warning against. They contribute to children overheating while simply sitting in their strollers; those brightly colored $20 strollers are actually preferable options.
Experts also recommend other precautions, like taking their kids out of their seats occasionally to air out their skin.
