I love any chance to make my house a little more summery, so I have definitely been on the lookout for cool DIY home decor ideas that I can try. After finding some inspiration, I think I’ve come across the perfect project: the flip-flop welcome sign.
Whether you live by the beach or just dream about ocean breezes, this cute coastal decor is a great way to welcome guests and decorate your home for summer. This welcome sign will make you think of warmer weather just by looking at it.
Using flip-flops to make the sign is a unique and fun way to bring those beachy vibes to any location. To make mine, I purchased four pairs of colorful flip-flops (blue, white, and yellow.) While you can choose to decorate with any fun artsy accessories, I opted to use some cute seashells and glue them straight on the flip-flops. Then, I painted out the word "Welcome" on it. The end result was very cute (and easily something you could craft at home with the kids or grandkids).
This sign is perfect for mounting above your door or putting in your foyer to welcome guests.
In the step-by-step tutorial below, you’ll see just how easy it is to make a DIY flip-flops welcome sign. It only requires a handful of supplies and a few very simple steps. Let's get started!
Materials:
— 7 to 8 flip-flops
— Hot-glue gun
— Paint and paintbrush
— Beach decals (seashells)
— Burlap crafting ribbon
1. Arrange the flip-flops in the order you want them to be. Then start gluing them together.
2. Place a good amount of hot glue on all the spots where the flip-flops connect.
3. When dry, flip over, and hot-glue the burlap crafting ribbon to the back, creating a 'hanger.'
(*If you think your welcome sign needs more support, you can attach 2 to 3 wooden rulers to the back of the flip-flops. This will help weigh them down and keep them from falling forward.)
4. Turn back to the front side and begin attaching seashells to the flip-flops.
Get creative here and feel free to use other decals, like flowers or butterflies. Find what best fits your home decor and have fun with it.
5. Next, paint letters on each flip-flop to spell out 'Welcome.'
Let dry for a couple hours. Then, you're ready to hang your sign.
This sign is the perfect summer touch for any home or beach house.
I really love how this turned out and think it really is the easiest summer craft to add a little tropical flair to the home. Plus, it would look great hanging on the front door or in the foyer.
