Mother Cat Adopts Orphaned Newborn Monkey Rejected By His Family

In the wild, the need of newborn animals aren't always met. Sometimes, moms reject their young if they are too weak, or different from the rest of their group.

Animals like pandas sometimes give birth to more than one baby, and must choose the stronger of the little ones to feed and care for.

A tiny 3-week-old squirrel monkey was rejected by his mother: zoo keepers at a Russian zoo thought that Fyodor may not make it. The little monkey needed to stay warm in order to survive.

Zoo director Tatyana Antropova needed to come up with an idea, and quickly. So she decided to bring Fyodor home, and introduce him to her 16-year-old cat, Rosinka.

Miraculously, the two bonded quickly! The cat has become a surrogate mother to Fyodor, and the squirrel monkey is thriving under her care.

It's truly amazing what nature can show us: being of a different species doesn't stop animals from finding comfort in one another!

Now scroll down to see the two together…

But zoo director Tatyana Antropova came up with a brilliant idea: she could bring Fyodor home to her 16-year-old cat, Rosinka. She hoped that Rosinka would let the monkey latch on, and her body higher temperature would help keep him alive.

Sure enough, to her great surprise, she was right! Rosinka accepted Fyodor as her own, and he rides on her back around her home.

But Tatyana says that her cat is quickly growing tired of the monkey: he's getting a little too rowdy for her!

In about a month, the monkey will be old enough to return to the zoo's habitat.
