Crafter Transforms An Ordinary Jar Into A Stunning Fairy House For His Garden

Fairy houses are an adorable and inventive way to decorate any backyard.

With a little bit of imagination, you can make one out of nearly any base material — like with this fairy house made from plastic bottles.

Instructables user Barry Neeson decided to be extremely creative in making his unique fairy house. Not only did he use a surprising base material, but he also decorated it in a cute, one-of-a-kind way.

Neeson started with a simple mason jar, and covered it with colorful and carefully-crafted clay. And then, to top the whole thing off, he added a solar powered lid that would cause the whole thing to light up!

Scroll through below to see just how easy this illuminating mason jar fairy house is to make. And the best part? You can change up the clay decorations so yours will look entirely different.

With an adorable fairy house in mind, Neeson got started on a simple DIY that he planned to place in his garden or in his windowsill.

The supplies were all quite cheap, with the largest expense being the clay itself.

This DIY-er started painting the lid a vibrant red. The underside of the lid holds the light, so he was careful where he got paint.

He had placed tape over the solar panel during the painting process to keep it protected as well.

He got to work crafting the "house" portion using clay on the outside of an ordinary jar.

He used a sculpting knife to cut out a door and a smaller window for the house.

Neeson then got to work decorating the house itself using various colors of clay.

He added a lovely wooden door, stonework around the door and window, and plants and vines growing up the walls.

He baked the jar to allow the exterior of clay to harden into a more permanent state.

Neeson added clay circles to the lid itself, making it appear more like a mushroom top.

As a final step, he added a coat of lacquer to provide outdoor protection and give the house a nice finish.

And just like that, he was ready to turn on the light for a magical fairy house creation.

With different colored lights, this fairy house would look great as a nightlight, or sitting in the windowsill as decoration.
