As the summer months wane on and temperatures continue to climb, humans are forced to get creative if they want to stay cool.
But since we can't all afford cool, sparkling pools or beautiful, luxurious boats, it's often much easier to just avoid the heat altogether and relax in the air-conditioned indoors.
However, some clever minds aren't content with traditional answers to the sticky summer heat. Some people go above and beyond, seeking out new ways to enjoy some luxurious shade without breaking the bank.
Take, for instance, this brilliant group of young men. Looking for a way to enjoy the local lake, but without a boat or the means to buy one, they decided to rummage around and make do.
What they invented defied all my expectations — and now, I wish I had one of these, too!

Looking to have some summer fun with friends — but wanting to do so in a cheap and creative way — Imgur user "Spils23" got to work.
First, he and friends gathered old pallets and started taking them apart.
Next, they reassembled the boards in a large rectangular shape, recycling the pieces for crossbeams and support.
Other pallet pieces were used for upper decking.
Next, they grabbed some old blue barrels and tested those out too. Using $3 ratchet tie downs, they fastened a pallet to the barrel, tossed it in a pool, and climbed on top. It worked!
The pallet barrels also passed their running test.
Since they had no way to use pallets for the inner deck, they made their own pallets in the middle.
Their new summer toy was beginning to take shape!
When it was all ready, they disassembled their pallets, loaded them up on a trailer, and headed down to the lake.
Using their many blue barrels, they began to reassemble the pieces.
It was a team effort, but finally their lake toy was ready.
They'd successfully built a pallet pontoon!
The friends celebrated with a bottle of bubbly on their new summer toy.
Off they paddled into the distance!
A friend rushed out and helped them install an electric motor so they could even get a little further.
Sunny selfies abounded on their beautiful pallet pontoon.
They made it out to some submerged trees where they strung up a hammock.
They spent the day here, swimming and laughing and enjoying the summer sun.
When it was time to head in, they pulled their pontoon ashore.
Disassembling it for the trip home was easy.
Now, their homemade pallet pontoon is stored safely in a garage, awaiting their next outing. What do you think about their project? Let us know below!
