Our unlikely hero grumbles, “I can’t do this walking at my age,” but you can tell from the beginning that it’s a good-natured grumble; there is nothing in this world that would have kept Simon Cowell (yes, his real name!) from saving these baby pigeons. Much like this unlucky fireplace captive, these baby birds have found themselves housed in an unsustainable location.
While you may not be used to thinking of pigeons as adorable animals, Simon notes that they are pretty darn cute, and we have to agree! These little guys have been nesting above the door of an outbuilding that is soon to be walled off. The chicks, too young to care for themselves, would almost certainly die without intervention, so Simon comes to the rescue. Toting a ladder, he carefully extracts them from their hiding place.
In order to save them, Simon is sadly forced to separate them from their parents. He’s not pleased to do it, but as he tells his viewers that it’s “much better than the alternative.” Unlike babies like Budi the baby orangutan, the pigeon chicks will have a chance to grow up in comfort. These little guys will be reared humanely at an animal sanctuary until they’re ready to be released, saving them from the unhappy fate of being walled in along with their nest. We hope that these baby birds will be happy and healthy as they ‘nest’ at their new home.
