Usually when you ask kids about their imaginary friends, they have fun responses like, "His name is Laser Beam, and he rides dinosaurs!" Or for a girl, "Princess Toilet is called toilet because her hair is shiny and white like a toilet!"
Answers like this were undoubtedly what the staff of Oh Comely Magazine were expecting when they rounded up a bunch of kids and had them draw and describe their imaginary friends. But then Ruby, age 3, walked into the building and gave the entire living world nightmares for years.
This is your last chance to turn back. Any associated mental issues that arise from what you're about to see are entirely your own fault.

Actress Natalie Morales (Suits, Parks and Recreation) was the first person to realize just how horrifying "Grateful" really was. Even the name is creepy!
Although, by Natalie's own admission, this quote from the movie Ghost would have done Ruby and Grateful more justice.

Not that anyone agrees on what it might mean, but does it matter? It's EXACTLY what a poltergeist would say.
Again, our adult minds can't possibly be expected to invent or even comprehend Grateful's existence. We just know to run away and hide under the sheets if she ever shows up.
Then someone decided to update Ruby's artwork and make sure that, when you're tossing and turning in bed tonight, you will have a clear and terrifying visual of her "friend."
A few brave souls out there are managing to just laugh at the situation and have some fun with words.
But most of the Twitter anecdotes are not nearly this lighthearted.

Moving is a completely rational response to this phenomena. Also, never sleeping again seems legit.
This lady is all in on Grateful being real, which is sweet in a way.
But in a much worse way, it would mean Grateful is actually out there somewhere using night vision and not having birthdays. So your interpretation is not welcome here, ma'am. Thank you and good day!

Well, this clearly proves that Monsters, Inc. was a documentary (and now we have to explain to the locksmith why we need deadbolts on the bedroom closet).
This one is actually adorable!
Faith in humanity restored. Heck, who knows? Maybe Ruby and Grateful really do have a loving and supportive relationship.
