Robert De Niro Reveals He Doesn’t Change His Daughter’s Diapers

In April 2023, Robert De Niro welcomed a daughter with his girlfriend Tiffany Chen, 45. Though Robert De Niro has six other children, he previously admitted that parenthood “doesn’t get easier.” During a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the 81-year-old actor opened up about fatherhood and revealed that he doesn’t change his daughter’s diapers.

“No, no, but I used to,” Robert responded when The Sunday Times asked him about changing diapers. While he doesn’t change diapers, he spends his mornings watching videos by baby learning YouTuber Ms. Rachel. “I’m an early riser,” the Taxi Driver actor said. “I’ve got a 19-month-old baby. I spend my mornings watching Ms Rachel with her, and I give her her bottle.”

In addition to being dad to a 1-year-old daughter, Robert De Niro has six other children from previous relationships: Drena, 57, Raphael, 48, Julian and Aaron, 29, Elliot, 26, and Helen Grace, 12. The Godfather actor told The Sunday Times that each of his kids would describe him differently. In terms of how he would describe himself as a father, Robert offered a simple answer: “I try my best, that’s all. I hope they’ll be happy.”

Previously, Robert admitted that his girlfriend does a lot of the work when it comes to taking care of 1-year-old Gia. “I don’t do the heavy lifting,” he said. “I’m there, I support my girlfriend. But she does the work.”

He also added that they “have help, which is so important.” Though he has seven kids in total, his youngest still surprises him at times. “You never know what’s going to happen,” Robert previously told The Guardian. “They surprise you.”

And even though he doesn’t do the “heavy lifting,” Robert said that he enjoys fatherhood.

When asked what he enjoys about being a dad, he said “all of it.” (Though maybe not changing diapers, based on his recent admission). Given that his oldest child is 57 years old and his youngest is 1, they’re all at different stages in life. Robert told The Guardian that he enjoys each stage.

“With a baby it’s different to with my 11-year-old. My adult children. My grandchildren. It’s all different,” he explained.
