College is a major step in the life of a lot of young adults.
For me, one of the most amazing things about college is participating in the storied traditions of the school, and symbolically joining the ranks of everyone who went before. After all, there are some traditions that are worth holding onto!
In fact, most colleges have a few long-standing traditions that get passed down, especially within smaller groups like sororities and fraternities. Unfortunately, frats in particular have acquired a bit of a rep for dangerous traditions in recent years.
Quite a few frats are doing their part to dispel that reputation, like the brothers of Phi Kappa Psi at University of Alabama, who have been building tiny mobile homes for veterans. Now, another group of frat boys are demonstrating what brotherhood means to them!
At Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, it’s tradition for students to hike up Sleeping Giant trail at least once, to get a bird’s eye view of campus. Joey Mullaney, a junior, was never able to participate in that tradition—Joey suffers from a neuromuscular condition, and is confined to a wheelchair.
But a group of his brothers in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity decided that they weren’t going to let Joey miss out on this shared experience. Leaving the wheelchair behind, watch as they surprise Joey with an unforgettable experience that he’ll always share with his brothers!
Now, they’re also planning to follow up with a charity ride to fund research into Joey’s condition, called Friedrich’s Ataxia. If you’d like to learn more, you can check out their page here.
Please, don’t forget to spread the word and SHARE this incredible story of brotherhood and perseverance on Facebook!
