We often go over the top when preparing gifts for our loved ones — and sometimes, it comes in the form of strange architecture.
When it comes to our pets, some pet owners definitely go out of their way to provide the best homes, like cat lover Peter Cohen, who remodeled his California home into a playhouse for his cats.
And it looks like Cohen's done it again — but this time, he has renovated a whole different home into one that looks like the perfect cat house villa.
"The catwalks are for the cats, but they're also for me," he said of the spirals and ceiling-high platforms in an interview with Houzz TV. "They're architecturally interesting to me in the colors, and we always try to do something interesting with the shapes."
And it seems like his effort has paid off. The cats, all of whom were rescued near the area around the residence, now roam freely in their manmade playpen.

When Peter Cohen first purchased this property in Goleta, CA, he took in a few roaming stray cats in the area. Over time, he rescued more than a dozen cats and brought them into his home.

The home builder decided to renovate his residence, so that it could include more interactive elements for the cats.

So, he enlisted the help of construction company Trillium Enterprises, and, after spending nearly $40,000, has transformed the interior of his home into a kitty haven. There's everything from spiral walkways and ceiling-high scratch poles to tunnels and perches.
There are platforms installed against the walls, special exhaust fans to keep away the litter box odors, and automatic vacuum cleaners to pick up the cat hair.

Even the bathroom was redesigned to function as a cat-safe playpen.

"I thought maybe the cats would just look at it, but they use it all," Cohen told Houzz TV. "It's like a freeway sometimes with them all over the place."

There is a rope-wrapped pole in the home office, as well as several ceiling-high platforms.

The cats can enter the master bedroom through a tunnel over the door, and land on floating shelves in a loft area with beds made especially for them.

There are cat-shaped emblems all over the house, like over here, inside the shower area.

Other parts of the house look completely normal. The kitchen is still fully functioning, but has plenty of pillars and skylights next to it.

Cohen tries to spend as much one-on-one time as possible with each of the cats, but that's proving to be difficult, since no two cats ever seem to be in the same room at once.

Still, he has tried his best to make the "feline adventure land" a joy for them. There is a wonderful koi fish pond outside in the garden. And although none of the cats have tried to catch a fish before, it's definitely a stunning feature to the exciting
