Soldier Watches His First Baby Being Born Over Skype

For months, Dina the Army wife has been looking forward to giving birth to her very first baby. But while she was overjoyed at the thought, it came with the bittersweet knowledge that the father, Greg Bacon, wasn't going to be able to be there for that special moment.

So when he got the good news that Dina was pregnant, it seemed like fate wanted him to miss the most important day of his life — because soon after he was called for deployment.

veteran of the United States Army, Greg was heartbroken that he wouldn't be there; his worst fear throughout his whole life was to be deployed, not because of the dangers of combat, he was comfortable with that, but it was the possibility of missing his first son's birth, and it seemed like he was going to miss out.

Then, something incredible happened… It seemed so obvious, but it took a while to actually realize it as a possibility. For the past few months, the couple had been video chatting on Skype and Facetime, but no one actually thought to bring a laptop into the operating room!

While it's not as amazing as being there in person, the mere fact that this technology now allows us to "be" somewhere when we're actually thousands and thousands of miles away. Well, it's stories like this that really make it seem like all this technology really is a good thing.
