He Used Old Pallets And Scrap To Create A Bug Sanctuary In His Backyard

Bugs — they can be the bane of our very existence. They crawl into our homes to munch our crumbs, bundle up in our sweaters, and spook us in the night.

Often, we make it our life's work to get them out of our homes — like this brilliant DIY project that kills stinkbugs without all the smell.

But did you know that some bugs can actually be a benefit to your home, especially your garden? While we hate having creepy crawlies inside our home, finding them in our backyards is actually quite good for pollination, bringing gardens and flowers to life.

That's why this DIY-er created a "Bug Hotel" for insects and critters to lodge in outside, thus encouraging wildlife to flourish in his garden!

He created his "Bug Hotel" from old wooden pallets and straw, bark, moss, fir cones, old tree shelters and bits of wood — perfect for insects, and maybe even a few hedgehogs.

To create the frame for the bug hotel, they used wooden pallets.

Using nails, they created the structure of the hotel with three walls.

They used planks of wood under the pallets to create extra space for critters.

For the roof, they cut a pallet in half at an angle.

By cutting the pallets at an angle, the roof meets at a point.

They then drilled the roof onto the rest of the bug hotel.

Reused terra cotta tiles help to shield the bug hotel from the elements.

The bug hotel was then filled with bits of bark, wood, straw and moss to burrow into.
