Soldier-In-Training Let His Instincts Take Over To Save A Little Girl

When Army Cadet Brenner Milburn showed up to march in the Oklahoma State University’s homecoming parade in uniform back in October, he had no idea how quickly that uniform would turn into a beacon of hope for those around him.

Tragically, in the middle of the parade — which is a huge event in the town of Stillwater, Oklahoma — an impaired driver crashed her car into the crowd, killing four and injuring dozens of others.

Trainee ROTC cadets in attendance quickly became first responders, much like this quick-thinking cop. The cadets allowed training to kick in to help free people from the wreckage and provide triage care for the wounded, many of whom were children.

Cadet Milburn was one of the trainees on the scene that day, and he says that at first, he was scared. "Everyone's looking at me, I'm the one in the uniform, and I do not know enough." Then, just like the three brave men who thwarted a gunman on a Belgian train, his instincts kicked in.

He heard parents screaming for help; their little girl was badly injured and losing blood. Milburn scooped her up and carried her straight through the crowd to emergency workers.

That little girl turned out to be Hadley Wyatt, a 6-year-old who was watching the parade with her sister when the crash happened. Today, her parents call Milburn a “hero,” thanks to the quick action that may have saved Hadley’s life. Check out Hadley’s GoFundMe page and the video below to learn more.
