Steve Martin And Bernadette Peters Perform ‘Tonight You Belong To Me’

During the late 1970s Steve Martin was on a rise to fame that has yet to come down. His amazing sense of humor, down-to-Earth nature, and all-around talent have always drawn him thousands upon thousands of fans, but his celebrated comedic film, "The Jerk," is quite possibly the mega-hit he needed to reach the very top.

Martin, enjoying huge amounts of success on "Saturday Night Live" and other shows, always dreamed of getting into the movies; but even with his star on the rise, he still found the process quite difficult. Over a long period of time writing and selling his script, he finally managed to get the big studios to sign up his hilariously surreal film.

The film itself only cost $4 million dollars to produce, and studios were astounded at the huge box office draw it had, drumming up nearly $75 million in ticket sales.

While the film itself is a comedy, there are some truly honest and beautiful moments interspersed throughout the whole piece; perhaps the most memorable moment of the whole film is when Steve and Bernadette Peters sing the 1926 classic love song, "Tonight You Belong To Me."

This was one of Steve's favorite moments of the whole film, but he found himself distraught to realize that much of the audience left the theater during this scene in order to use the bathroom and get more popcorn!

The film itself is still remembered as one of the funniest movies of all time, and will always be remembered as the film that really kicked Martin's career into overdrive. Since then he hasn't stopped his bizarre and hilarious form of comedy!

Even after they share this beautiful song together, Steve breaks the tension with a hilarious joke! Classic!

Please SHARE this beautiful song if you remember this beautiful scene!
