Watch A Famous Scene From The Beloved ‘Charlie Brown Christmas’

Way before children were singing along to Frozen's "Let It Go" or laughing along with SpongeBob SquarePants, they were tuning in to watch Charlie Brown and his Peanuts characters friends.

In 1965, A Charlie Brown Christmas premiered on TV and became a holiday classic that would play for years to come. It also produced some beloved holiday tunes, including "Christmas Time Is Here."

The special, written by the late Charles M. Schulz, focuses on Charlie Brown's holiday blues. He's infuriated with the commercialism that often comes hand-in-hand with Christmas.

"I think there must be something wrong with me, Linus," Charlie Brown tells his friend. "Christmas is coming, but I'm not happy. I don't feel the way I'm supposed to feel. I just don't understand Christmas I guess."

That's when Lucy tells him that directing a school play might be a way to lift his spirits. Although Charlie Brown takes the offer, it isn't an easy task for him.

Below, we see the moment Linus van Pelt helps Charlie Brown out by explaining "what Christmas is all about." In the popular scene, he recites a biblical verse onstage in front of his friends. It also marks the big moment Linus drops his security blanket, which he's rarely seen without. Some suggest that this represents Linus' confidence in religion, especially since he drops it around the time he says the words, "fear not," which is a quote from Luke 2:8-14.

While the religious-inspired scene caused controversy in some schools around the nation decades later, it's still a beloved one.
