If you found an unclaimed pile of cash, what would you do? Would you try to find the owner, or keep it for yourself?
For some people, the answer is simple. That's what diner busboy Johnny "Thumper" Duckworth would say. After all, he found $3,000 in an envelope — and didn't think about taking the money for himself.
Johnny was going about his normal duties, cleaning up tables and booths at Randy’s Southside Diner in Grand Junction, Colorado, when he found the envelope. He handed it over to his boss, saying he thought that there must be a lot of money in it. Then, he walked away.
And sure enough, when the boss opened it, he found $3,000 inside!
Johnny isn't one with a lot of money: he is currently riding a bike to and from work, even in the cold weather, and struggles with paying his medical bills. But he says that he works for his money.
When boss Randy Emmons took the money to the bank to find the owner, he found out that it belonged to Darrell Cox, a regular at the diner who hadn't realized that the money was missing in the first place. But he was sure glad to have it back!
Johnny was rewarded for his honesty and was given $300. But now he's getting even more from strangers who have heard of his good deed: his boss set up a GoFundMe page so anyone can help Johnny get through his financial troubles. The goal was to raise $3,000 — the same amount he found on the ground. But the amount donated has well exceeded that, reaching almost $14,000!
