As one half of the world's most legendary folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, and on his own with his solo projects, musician Paul Simon has written a long list of classic songs we all continue to enjoy to this day. He's responsible for crafting almost all of the tunes the two made famous over the 1960s and 1970s. The soft melodies, emotional lyrics, and soothing harmonies still give chills to new generations discovering the songs for the first time.
Considering how poignant his songs are, it's easy to forget that Simon also has a silly side he likes to show off now and again. As a good friend of Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels, Simon has appeared on the sketch show a whopping 14 times. In fact, he was the second person to ever take on the role of host during its premiere season in 1975. He became close with several of the cast members, including the gentleman who continues to steal his thunder in this hilarious music video for "You Can Call Me Al."
Comedian Chevy Chase enters the small pink room alongside Simon, and before the singer can begin, it's Chase who begins to lip-sync the words. The funny man's tall, lanky frame next to Simon's much smaller stature sets the tone for the delightful performance, as Simon grows more and more frustrated with having his music usurped from him. It's a little hard to focus on how nice the actual song is with all the antics going on, but don't be surprised if you start humming it to yourself later today anyway!
