There has been a strange history to animals hiding where we least expect them to. And possibly the worst place we can find all kinds of creepy, crawly critters is in our food. We bet you would stay away from grapes for a while if you found a venomous black widow in a recently purchased bag of the fruit. And after seeing what happens to this banana, you're sure to pay extra attention to your produce from now on.
Seeing critters in our food probably isn't as rare as we want to believe, but what is rare is a happy ending to the story. A little kindergartener wasn't as put off by seeing a lizard in her salad greens, but we know we would be!
The lizard was found almost lifeless in the refrigerated bag of greens, which came from an organic grocery store in New Jersey. The little girl brought the creature to her teacher, Mark Eastburn, the next day. In most cases, the poor thing would have been left for dead, but Mark helped rehabilitate the lizard, giving it a home in the classroom as the class pet. The students named the lizard "Green Fruit Loop," who is now being used to teach the children about organic food, among other topics. Mark's new educational tool is a big hit with the class!
Please SHARE if you're happy this lucky little lizard survived!
