Deputies And A Good Samaritan Save A Pregnant Cow From Drowning

Deputies from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office in Florida got a one-of-a-kind call: a 3-year-old cow was on the brink of drowning in a small pond. They found the poor thing still lying on the ground, with a Good Samaritan by her side. When the deputies arrived on the scene, the man was holding the animal's head above the water, and later propped it on a log.

The deputies and the man conceived a plan to get the cow, who was pregnant, out of danger. They tied a rope around her to drag her out of the pool, but the mud made it difficult for them to even move her. Her legs were already stiff and her breathing was abnormal. Unfortunately, it looked like they were going to have to put her down.

But minutes before then, they decided to ask a veterinarian if there was anything else that could be done to save her. They sent the vet the fateful text message that ended up saving the pregnant cow's life. The vet told them to position the cow's hind legs in a way that would help her breathe normally again!

The rescue took about an hour, and the deputies later learned that it was the pressure her unborn calf was putting on her spine that caused her paralysis. Thankfully, the cow is safe and sound, and the calf is expected to be healthy!
