Halle Berry and her ex-husband Olivier Martinez are currently involved in a heated custody dispute. Earlier this week, something that Berry posted on Instagram added fuel to the fire. Although she didn’t write the post (she shared it from another account on her Instagram Stories) and it didn’t mention the custody battle specifically, it came up in court this week.
Olivier Martinez’s attorney, Patrick Baghdaserians, claimed that the post was “disturbing (his) client’s peace,” according to a new report from Page Six.
Martinez was not the only person who assumed the post was related to the custody dispute.

Of course, it’s not unusual for people to scroll through their feeds, see a post that resonates with them, and then re-post it. The post that Berry shared to her Instagram Stories was related to relationships and parenting. But given that she’s currently in the middle of this high-profile custody battle and facing allegations of abuse, the post made headlines.
It read, “If kids disrespect their moms, the root cause often traces back to the relationship with the father.”
It obviously raised eyebrows because of how pointed it sounds. The timing of it all certainly doesn’t help. According to Entertainment Weekly, Berry proceeded to share a post about Black Cat Awareness Month after posting that one and did not say anything else about her ex, her custody battle, or the post about kids disrespecting their moms.
The post then came up in court.

Martinez’s attorney wanted to question Berry about the post in court. Her attorney, Marina Beck, described the request as a “last-minute grasp at straws, nothing more than a witch hunt,” per Page Six.
She claimed that “they just intended to re-open evidence and continue their false narrative.”
The post really was shared via Berry’s account, but TMZ later reported that her account could have been hacked. Sources reportedly told the tabloid that Berry was not the one who posted it, though it’s unclear where they got this information.
Last week, Martinez stormed out of court.
So, things have obviously been quite tense for the former couple. Page Six reported that Martinez left the courtroom looking visibly “distressed.” He was heard having “an animated discussion” with his lawyer and “using profanity.”
This is not the first time that Martinez and Berry have gotten into a heated custody dispute. This time, however, Martinez has accused Berry of child abuse. Because of an alleged September 26 incident, Martinez filed a petition for a temporary restraining order against Berry and requested full custody of their son, Maceo.
In his filing, he claimed, “While the September 26, 2026, incident in which Petitioner choked our son is the latest incident of abuse, I contend that there have been other instances of abuse over the course of the last few years.”
In addition to accusing Berry of “physical attacks against” Maceo, Martinez alleged that she has been verbally and emotionally abusive to him. Berry’s attorney has described the allegations as “entirely meritless and deliberately misleading.”
“Fortunately, Halle is used to this kind of outrageous conduct from Mr. Martinez and, while she is deeply saddened, she will not allow it to deter her from fighting for Maceo’s best interests and providing him with the love and support he needs,” she said.
