Missing Man Solves His Own Cold Case After 30 Years

In 1986, 21-year-old Edgar Latulip disappeared from a group home in Kitchener, Ontario. The last time his mother, Sylvia Wilson, saw him was in the hospital. Latulip had cognitive issues as a child, and when he was 21 years old, he tried to take his own life. When he completely disappeared and no one could find him, police believed the worst: that he had taken his own life. His mother thought maybe there was foul play. The truth, however, is stranger than fiction.

Now 30 years later, the story seems as though it is the plot of a movie. Latulip had hit his head and lost his memory for all this time. He had no idea who he was, until suddenly it all came back to him. Latulip then went to see a social worker to tell her he remembered his real identity. DNA test confirmed that he was the young man who disappeared three decades ago. He had been living 80 miles away from where he was last seen. Authorities are baffled, but Edgar's family is just happy to reunite with him and have some closure.

“It’s the only case, that I know of, where we’ve been able to find someone who has been missing for this period of time,” Detective Duane Gingerich told CTV News. “They’re obviously very happy about it and they’re making plans to get together with Edgar and speak with him further."
