When Stacey Wilson went to get a pedicure at a local salon, the mother hoped to have a relaxing day and do a little beautifying. Instead, she wound up in the emergency room. Stacey believes that during her pedicure, the worker was too rough on her feet with the pumice stone. The stone cut the side of her foot and underneath her pinky toe. Soon after, her ankle became sore and red. Soon, the pain progressively worsened to the point where her skin was red and she could no longer stand. Stacey was rushed to the ER with a fever of 102.
"It feels like you're sitting too close to a fire and you just cannot get away from it, that's the way it feels," Stacey, who is a nurse, told Channel 7 News.
Dr. Michael Pafford said it isn't uncommon for people who get manicures and pedicures to get infections. He suggests speaking up if you suspect a salon worker has not properly sterilized the equipment.
"Recognizing you have the right to refuse them from continuing if you think they're not using sterile equipment. That's the best thing to do," Dr. Pafford said. Stacey plans on filing a formal complaint with the Arkansas Health Department when she gets out of the hospital — fortunately, she will be OK.
