"I really believe that people can tackle far more than they think can."
Veronika Scott is only 24 years old, but she's already making a huge difference in her city, and is the CEO of the Empowerment Program, a business that helps the homeless in more ways than one.
The child of addicts, Veronika says that she was set up by life to fail, but instead of giving in to that fate, she got a scholarship to college and started making a difference for other people. Now, Veronika runs a business that makes a coat specifically designed for the homeless population – if needed, it turns into a sleeping bag.
One day, when Veronika was trying out a prototype of her jacket on the cold streets of Detroit, a woman came out of the homeless shelter and started yelling at her, telling her what they needed was jobs, not jackets. It was then that Veronika decided that her employees would only be women living in shelters.
