Jimmy Kimmel Donates 1,000 Masks To The Children’s Hospital That Saved His Son’s Life

Jimmy Kimmel has always been big on giving back. The late-night host has been making a donation every day of quarantine since production on the show shut down five weeks ago. On Tuesday, he donated to a cause near and dear to his heart.

Tuesday was a special day for the Kimmel family. Jimmy and wife Molly McNearney celebrated their son, Billy, on his third birthday. Billy was born with tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, a congenital heart disease. He had to undergo heart surgery at just 3 days old. He had another surgery a few months later. Jimmy and Molly have credited Children's Hospital Los Angeles with saving Billy's life on many occasions.

Jimmy shared on Instagram that he and Molly would mark Billy's birthday by donating 1,000 masks to Children's Hospital Los Angeles. He encouraged others to make donations to the hospital as well, which he and Molly would be matching.

Jimmy Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney, have always been big on giving back. That giving spirit grew even more after the birth of their son, Billy. Billy was born with Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, a congenital heart defect. He had his first open-heart surgery at just three days old.

Billy's health struggles have been very emotional for Jimmy and Molly. He shared an emotional monologue telling the story of Billy's birth and revealing he would have to have another open-heart surgery. That surgery happened when he was 7-months-old.

Tuesday marked Billy's 3rd birthday. Jimmy and Molly decided to give back to Children's Hospital Los Angeles, where Billy had his procedures. They shared the news on social media.

"Happy 3rd birthday to our sweet & strong Billy. Thanks now and always to the heroic doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and medical professionals who saved his life and the lives of countless others. My wife Molly and I are donating 1,000 masks to @ChildrensLA to celebrate. Your donation will be MATCHED at the link in my bio."

"Billy is donating 1,000 N-95 masks to Children's Hospital to thank them for his birthday," Jimmy announced during his monologue.

"He doesn't know he is, but he is. The only mask he knows about is a Spider-Man mask."

There was a surprise in store for Billy as well. Jimmy's guest was none other than Tom Holland, who currently plays Spider-Man. Tom's quarantined in London with some friends and is eager to get to work on the third Spider-Man film.

After Tom and Jimmy chatted for a bit, Jimmy asked if Tom would say hi to Billy. "I don't know if it's going to register," he admitted. Tom was happy to comply. Jimmy returned with both Billy and 5-year-old daughter Jane in his lap.

Billy was excited to see Spider-Man, but he got a bit shy. Not to worry, as big sister Jane took over. "That's Peter Parker," she said surprisedly.

Jane also had no problem admitting that she thinks Spider-Man has a "cute face."

This is the latest way that Jimmy is giving back. He has chosen a different charity to give to every day of this quarantine based on his guests' suggestions. Some of the latest charities have been Brother's Trust at the suggestion of Tom, Snoop Youth Football League at the suggestion of Snoop Dogg, and HFC at the suggestion of Seth Rogen.
