What to Know
Apparently, there’s been some tension on the set of MobLand, and all of the drama has people questioning whether Tom Hardy will return for season three. A third season of the hit Paramount+ series has not been officially confirmed yet. However, on May 22, Variety reported that Hardy had essentially been fired from the show and not asked to return for a third season.
The report alleged that this seemed to be due to conflicts between Hardy and the show’s producers, including executive producer Jez Butterworth and 101 Studios. Now, some more details and allegations have come to light, and the whole thing sounds incredibly messy.
First of all, ‘Variety’ later reported that Hardy was not actually fired.
Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren did not have a falling out on the set of #MobLand, sources tell Variety, despite rumors alleging tension over differing views on Gaza and Hardy’s reported on-set tardiness.

The updated report from the publication claimed that the tension between Hardy and other people involved in the show are very real, but it now seems that those who are involved are trying to work through these issues. One production source told Variety that Hardy is definitely “difficult,” and he and producers allegedly butted heads for several reasons, such as his tardiness and desire to re-write parts of the script.
However, this doesn’t mean that he’s actually been fired from the series. “Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3 and things are being worked through creatively,” one source told the publication.
But it also sounds like there’s more to the drama.

On May 27, The Hollywood Reporter published its own report explaining Hardy’s behavior. And the report makes it clear that the issues people are allegedly having with Hardy are not unique to MobLand. While working on season two of the show, Hardy allegedly “refused to come out of his trailer for hours at a time,” according to one of the publication’s sources.
That same source explained that this very much seemed like “a power play” because he “kept the cast waiting.” The insider added, “Keeping Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and others waiting is career suicide, I would wager.”
These kinds of claims are not new. As the publication pointed out, Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller previously recalled dealing with similar issues with Hardy. Miller claimed Hardy “had to be coaxed out of his trailer.”
In a book titled “Blood, Sweat, and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road,” Kyle Buchanan wrote that Hardy’s behavior was “aggressive” on set, per Variety.
In a separate book, Patrick Stewart characterized Hardy as antisocial and unfriendly. “Tom wouldn’t engage with any of us on a social level,” Stewart wrote. “Never said, ‘Good morning,’ never said, ‘Goodnight,’ and spent the hours he wasn’t needed on set in his trailer with his girlfriend.”
One of his MobLand co-stars has spoken up.
Amid all of the rumors and drama, Helen Mirren took to Instagram to defend Hardy. Her post was simple, but it definitely doesn’t make it seem like she’s totally fed up with him. She shared a photo of the actor and wrote, “Love you now and always.”
So, although several publications reported that Hardy made his co-stars wait “for ages” in a way that his MobLand co-stars found “frustrating,” there doesn’t seem to be any animosity between them.
