Contrary to popular belief, not all penguins live in frigid, extreme southern areas like Antarctica. In fact, there are penguins in captivity all over the world, but even some of the free-ranging penguins live in warmer climates near the equator. None of that information, however, means that penguins don't like cold weather. In fact, many of them love it.
So what if you're a King Penguin housed at The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden in Cincinnati, OH? Sure, it gets mighty chilly there from time to time, but it's certainly not ice-covered and freezing like Antarctica all the time.
Well, on those occasions when The Cincinnati Zoo does get some significant snowfall, they let those King Penguins go outside to experience the cold, fluffy whiteness in all its glory. And boy, oh boy, do those penguins absolutely love it!
In the video below, posted on the zoo's official YouTube page, you'll see as their King Penguins take to the snow like…well, penguins. They waddle around with their little penguin walk, flap their gorgeous wings, and play in the snow like a group of toddlers. It's so cute!
They even get down on their bellies, slide along the chilly snow, and make like they're swimming in it. It really is a beautiful thing to behold. Not only are they absolutely breathtaking creatures, but they truly appear to be in their element as they play in the snow.
What a cool thing it is that we get to be a fly on the wall as they play.
