Tarek El Moussa and Heather Rae Young became engaged this weekend while celebrating their one-year anniversary. The two took a boat trip to Catalina Island, California, and Tarek surprised Heather by proposing while on the trip.
The entire proposal was super romantic. People has shared details:
“The proposal was a total surprise for Young, who thought the trip was planned to celebrate their anniversary. She was stunned when she walked down a beach path lined with flower petals and flickering candles and found El Moussa waiting beneath two ‘kissing’ palm trees that have grown into each other, making them appear as if they are sharing a smooch.
“An ombré flower arrangement using over 5,000 stems of Young’s favorite blooms, including roses, peonies, dahlias, ranunculus, butterfly lisianthus and hydrangeas, cascaded down the palms. Shades of red and pink, Young’s two favorite colors, made up the color scheme.
"Dressed in a tuxedo, the HGTV star got down on one knee in the sand and asked for Young's hand in marriage. The father of two revealed that in preparation for the big moment, he secretly drove to Running Springs, CA, to ask her parents for their blessing, which they gave."

Tarek also told People all about the eight-carat, colorless, emerald-cut diamond engagement ring that he chose for Heather: "The diamond is perfect all the way around, just like Heather. I also picked this ring because 8 is a lucky number."
Tarek proposed pretty early into the trip, and the two enjoyed a dinner together afterward. Tarek had even more decorations prepared for the dinner, including a hot pink-and-red custom neon sign that read "The Future Mrs. El Moussa."
Funnily enough, Tarek bought the boat after he and his ex-wife, Christina Anstead, divorced. He even renamed the boat Bad Decisions following their split, a move that is perhaps a little questionable. One would hope that something as serious as a divorce would prompt a bit of soul-searching and growth on Tarek's part.
Since the trip was ostensibly to celebrate their anniversary, the two pulled out all the stops. Heather gifted Tarek a scrapbook focused on their first year together. The pair met on the Fourth of July in 2019, after being introduced by friends who all lived in Newport, California.
Heather also took to Instagram to celebrate their love: "From the first day I met you, to our first date and our second date when we decided to commit 100% before we barely even knew each other. But we knew what we had was special. We had that butterflies in your tummy, can't eat, can't stop smiling soul mate love."
She continued: "I always knew it was out there, I knew I deserved to find it, I had given up hope that you were out there, and then there you were. It was unexpected for both of us and it was a moment that changed our lives forever. You are my very best friend in the whole world. The man I look up to, admire, adore, best daddy, best heart, kind & most important loyal and honest."
"I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. Every single day waking up to your sweet face and holding me before bed. I love you beyond anything I could have ever dreamed or imagined. I promise to love you every single day @therealtarekelmoussa. Happy One Year Anniversary my bunny bear. the love of my life. Me +you."
She also shared the details of their anniversary celebration:

The two haven't shared any wedding plans yet, but it's safe to assume that they will as they begin making them.
