People often forget just how important bees are to our existence on Earth. Yes, they can be annoying at times, and even dangerous for those who are allergic to their stings, but they're a major part of ecosystem through their tireless efforts pollinating flowers and plants while also producing delicious honey. They truly are a tiny wonder.
Beekeepers have been keeping the little buzzing insects in apiaries for centuries but, according to Wikipedia, the tradition of collecting honey from bees actually dates all the way back to 15,000 years ago.
That's a pretty amazing fact, but the process has never been an easy one. Keeping bees and collecting their honey can be laborious, time consuming, and even painful for beekeepers that constantly face the threat of being stung. It's also quite stressful for the bees themselves as hives are often disturbed during honey collection.
One new invention, however, is working to make the process easier for everyone involved (including the bees). In the below video, you'll see how two intrepid beekeepers named Cedar Anderson and Stuart Anderson figured out a way to make a beehive that has a honey tap in it. Amazing!
Instead of having to disturb the hive and manually extract honey every time it needs to be harvested, the FlowHive actually allows users to insert two tubes that will start letting the delectably sweet treat flow straight from the hive without disturbing any bees or putting beekeepers in danger.
While the product is still in its early stages of development, the video says that Cedar and Stuart are planning to launch a Kickstarter campaign to make their dream of having FlowHive become a household name a reality.
Let's hope this cool invention can really get off its feet and save both the bees and beekeepers a whole lot of stress.
