Meet Sammie Jay, a pint-sized street performer with a gigantic singing voice. She blew me away with her voice and her original song "Killing Me Slowly" in Covent Garden, London. Her soulful voice is seriously a throwback to Janis Joplin!
Hailing from London, Sammie spent part of her childhood in Nashville, TN. You can hear the country influences in her vocals as she belts out these original lyrics with such heartfelt emotion.
Some artists may not put much weight on street performance, but Sammie says it helps her to feel more connected with her audience. She says, "It is awesome that I get to connect and touch the hearts of so many people through my music. It doesn't matter to me if I am singing to a small bunch of people or if I am in a huge arena in front of thousands, I live and breath the melody and lyrics of a good song." The last time I was this blown away by a street performer, it was Doug Seegers — a homeless man who spent his days playing music on the streets of Tennessee. After his music was posted on YouTube, people began lining up to see his concerts.
So much amazing talent walks amongst us. Please show your support for independent artists like Sammie Jay and SHARE this performance with your friends on Facebook!
