The friendship of Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps has been well-documented. The two have been spotted together so many times over the years, as one another's dates to special events, award shows, and more. Busy, who is always active on social media, loves to talk up her best friend, too. She frequently shares their get-togethers with her followers, and we're always here for it.
In a recent post, Busy really got candid about her relationship with Michelle, and honestly, it's a pretty breathtakingly beautiful thing to see. The two have always been so supportive of one another through thick and thin. But lasting friendships, especially in Hollywood, can be totally rare. Busy just proved, once again, that she and Michelle are total friendship goals. Truth be told, we wish we had a BFF like either one of them.
Busy took to Instagram to share a tribute to her dear friend on her 4oth birthday, and it was a heck of a tearjerker.
Busy and Michelle have been friends for decades. We first were introduced to both of them as rising stars on Dawson's Creek, but who knew they would still be so tight 20 years later? It's really a testament to the power of female friendship, given these two have been together longer than most marriages.
We've long known how important they are to one another. They pretty much always attend award shows together. Michelle has given some beautiful acceptance speeches where she's shouted out her BFF. But Busy pretty much constantly pours her heart out about her love for Michelle, talking about her strength and grace. It's truly a beautiful thing to witness.
Busy took the Michelle parade one step further with a gorgeous tribute to her friend on her 40th birthday, which is definitely an important occasion for a shout-out. Alongside pictures of the two, she began, "I love these pictures. Because it's just truly so us. I can't believe my best friend is 40. We met 20 years ago, which makes no sense because we're still 27."
She basically wrote about how amazing Michelle is but touched on how tough it was not to get to celebrate this very special birthday with her friend this year. "I really wish I could be with my friend tonight celebrating how special and incredible and brilliant she is," her post continued. "And to tell her in person how I'm eternally grateful that we met all those years ago because there's no one I'd rather weather all the storms with and celebrate all the wonderful things with and cry and cry and laugh and laugh and drink and not drink with."
Michelle and Busy have been through a lot together. From marriages and having babies to the death of Michelle's longtime partner Heath Ledger, Busy has always been right by Michelle's side, lifting her up. She just seems like the ultimate BFF, to be honest. This post just feels like further confirmation of that. We all need a Busy Philipps in our corner.
Busy joked about what the future holds for the two of them: "And I can't wait to be old someday with my friend and go to farmers markets in the countryside with her- my long grey hair parted in the middle and pulled tightly back in a bun and she in some giant sun hat, protecting her still perfect porcelain skin," she wrote, because even in her jokes, she's protective of Michelle.
"And then we, two old ladies who met when they were girls, jokingly will say to the lady farmer selling us oranges 'you won't believe this- we've been friends 50 years! Which makes no sense because we're only 40!' And then Michelle will turn to me and say(for the girl's benefit), 'well, I'M only 40, B. You're 41. And we will look at each other and link arms and laugh. Happy birthday, M. I love you."
It's so important for women to have a few strong female friendships, especially in the industry these two ladies are in. In seems like they learned early that having someone to genuinely be able to rely on would be so important for each of them. Now their friendship has withstood the many tests of time.
Busy and Michelle are both activists and powerhouse women. They believe in women's rights and fighting for equality, but obviously, supporting women isn't just something they talk about — it's something they make a point to do in their own lives. That support feels ever-present in their friendship.
We love these ladies so much, and we can't wait to see them back together again. But for now, they are doing their best to stay close even though they can't be hanging out, as usual.
There's really nothing these strong women can't get through together. That's for sure.
