Russian folk dance was and still is an important part of Russian culture. Each performance, like the one in this video, showcases beautifully designed costumes with great detail. Typically, women wore holiday headdresses, embroidered shirts, belts, and ornamented aprons.
In the video below, a group of young women perform Sudarushka, which is defined as a dance of vivid and light character with a medium to fast tempo. From the minute they step on stage, their scarves become an intricate part of their synchronized dance number.
We've seen plenty of ridiculously talented dancers, like this incredible salsa duo or the Japanese dance troupe that combines dance, technology, and light into unforgettable pieces of performance art.
As the women move into a combination of a circle dance and chorus singing, the scarves twirl around, changing color and shape throughout. It's truly mesmerizing to watch. My favorite part is at 2:55 when the scarves "magically" turn colors. With every move, their scarves transform into something new, shifting into various colors and shapes. It's difficult to turn away because at every moment, you seriously don't know what they're going to do next.
