It can be hard to teach siblings to treat each other with kindness. But one kid doesn't need any lessons on how to do just that. A sweet little boy from Ohio was just caught on video doing the most adorable and heart-melting thing: taking care of his baby brother in the middle of the night.
Gloria McIntosh is the 10-year-old's mother. She has five other kids, so her son has obviously seen her do quite a bit of parenting! Obviously, her fine example is paying off.
One night, she was trying to let her 18-month-old baby settle on his own when she heard him fussing. To her surprise, her son Mason already had it covered. She was watching on the video baby monitor when she saw the sweetest thing taking place.
Mason thought his parents were sleeping, so when the baby started fussing, he crept right in. He tried to calm his baby brother, got him out of the crib and played with him, and ultimately ended up crawling into the crib with him! It's one of the sweetest things we've ever seen.
It's no wonder the video has gone viral. It's simply adorable. Presently, it's been liked 4.6 million times. While Mason was just trying to take care of the baby, he ended up getting pretty internet famous.
It's pretty fitting, actually. Mason's mom told Today that she always tells her kids that the true test of character is what a person does when no one is watching. It makes a lot of sense that he would go above and beyond, even when he thought he was all alone.
The sweetest part of the story is that it's not like it was 10 o'clock at night. It was around 3:30 in the morning. The little boy told his mother he didn't want her to have to get up. I mean, that's seriously sweet. And serious husband material in about 15 years!
“I was smiling the whole time,” she told the publication. “He has a love for Greyson that is unspeakable. I can’t even really explain it.”
“I asked him, ‘Why didn't you just come and get me in the first place?’" she recalled. “He was just like, ‘you had a big day and I just wanted you to get some rest.'" Cue. The. Tears.
She said that her son is a natural caregiver, which is pretty easy to see. "I’m sure Mason was tired and cranky," she said. "He was woken up at 3 a.m. But how you saw him treat his brother is how he is. He steps up."
We aren't sure if it's nature or nurture. But we're gonna go out on a limb and say that this family is doing a pretty great job of teaching their kids how to take care of one another. And that's maybe one of the most important lessons kids of any age can ever learn. Bravo.
