These Simple DIY Watermelon Candles Are Perfect For Summer

I'm sure many people would agree that summertime and watermelon pretty much go hand-in-hand. That’s why when I came across the watermelon candles shown in the video below, I knew I had to try making them.

Aside from being fairly simple to create, these colorful candles also help repel the irritating bugs and mosquitoes that can ruin any party.

Of course there’s other creative ways to deal with those pests — like citronella and coconut oil — but they aren’t as pretty as these watermelon candles.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Candlewicks
  • Paper cups
  • Candle wax
  • Fragrance oil
  • Color pigments (color crayons will also do)

First, put some glue on the base of the candlewick and stick it to the bottom of the cup.

In the meantime, melt the wax by either placing it in boiling water or a microwave for up to two minutes. Add the green wax to the cup and let it sit. Repeat for the white and red wax.

Once all the colors have set, take the cup off and – ta da! – your watermelon candle is complete!

Also, make sure to pay attention to the detail the YouTube host adds at the 2:38 mark. It’s optional but certainly adds a great touch.

You might also want to consider making your own holders for these beautiful candles.
