Bindi Irwin has enjoyed every minute of being a mom so far. As she celebrates this special time in her life, however, there's a heavy feeling she can't ignore.
As Bindi starts navigating her parenting journey, her dad's memory is weighing heavily on her heart. Steve Irwin's spirit lives on through the family and the important work they do, but it is still difficult to go through life's most special moments without someone you love so much.
Bindi touched on some of those complicated feelings in a preview for the family's new special, Crikey! It's a Baby. She expressed her "heartbreak" at the fact her father and daughter would never meet.
In the nearly 15 years since Steve Irwin's tragic death, we've seen the Irwin family do a beautiful job of honoring his memory. That has continued as the family has grown, first when Bindi married longtime love Chandler Powell last year.
It expanded again just a month ago, when Bindi and Chandler welcomed their first child on their first wedding anniversary. Daughter Grace Warrior Irwin Powell has already lit up her parents' lives. Now they're ready to share her with the world in a new Discovery+ special, Crikey! It's a Baby.
In a recent preview of the special, we see all the excitement around Bindi's pregnancy and the birth of sweet Grace. At one point in the special, Bindi reflects on how tough it's going to be knowing her dad will never meet her little girl.
"It's hard knowing that she'll never get to actually meet (my dad), and it's devastating because I'll never get to watch that connection," Bindi says, tearfully.
"But I cannot wait to be able to tell beautiful Grace all of these stories about Dad, to be able to share with her what an amazing father he was," she continued.
"It's gonna be really special for her to know him through us … to tell her about what an amazing man he was."
"It is really hard, it's hard that he’s not here because out of everyone in the world he would've loved her the most," Bindi admitted.
"He would've loved her so much, but I think, in a way, he is still with us. His heart and soul lives on in all of us, so he's never really gone."
On the bright side, Bindi does get to watch her mom develop a beautiful relationship with Grace.
"It's so exciting to be a mom because all of a sudden you get, like, a do-over. You get to experience the world again through the eyes of a child," Terri Irwin said. Now she's watching daughter Bindi through this journey.
The family also revealed that they decided on a cute grandma nickname for Terri. Grace will call her "Bunny."
"It'll just melt your heart every single time our daughter says Bunny," Chandler tells Terri.
"It will, actually," she replied. "I'm really looking forward to that."
