79-Year-Old Man Takes Hair And Makeup Lessons So He Can Help His Ailing Wife

True love is wanting to make sure that your partner always feels their best. For many women, sometimes the act of doing hair and makeup is enough to give us a lift and boost of confidence. But hair can be very tricky. Not all of us have a ton of professional skills when it comes to hair care. After a certain age, we know what we like and learn how to complete the look with daily practice.

Not many of us have thought about what we'd do when we're no longer able to complete our routine. But one husband took it upon himself to gain the skills that would let him accurately and safely help his wife feel her best.

An unnamed gentleman from Alberta, Canada, went viral after visiting a salon to learn more about curling hair. But not for himself — for his wife.

"This lovely gentleman came in today to learn how to curl his wife’s hair," wrote a user called Hair Design By Britney on Facebook. "His wife is unable to curl her own hair and often burns herself, so he stepped up to the plate and learned how to curl her hair. We had the pleasure of teaching him!"

"We taught him how to do volume curls on short hair, how to protect her skin from being burned and we even taught him to put on her mascara," the post continued. It ended up being shared over 387,000 times on Facebook. The noble act really touched a lot of hearts.

The 79-year-old didn't do this for the attention. Instead, he did it for his wife, whom he's been married to for 50 years. According to Upworthy, he said his wife had always "taken pride in" her hair and makeup, but based on her failing eyesight, was finding it harder to do herself.

And that's when he popped into Delmar College of Hair and Esthetics in Red Deer and met Britney and the other stylists. He told the school director, Carrie Hannah, more about his story. Carrie seemed overwhelmed with love and emotion for this man and his selfless act.

Carrie said that the man just walked in and asked if they taught classes. Carrie offered him a free demonstration then and there. "He really wanted to help her," she told City News in Winnepeg. "He genuinely cared. He knows his wife always cared about her appearance, and he wanted to help her."

Carrie said that she's been in the industry for 31 years and has never seen such a thoughtful act like this before. "He just genuinely warmed everyone's hearts and just really feel good. We really needed some cheering up, and he sure did it," she exclaimed.

"He lovingly pulled pictures from his wallet, showing everyone his wife, and boasting about how beautiful she has always been and how talented she was with skill set of typing over 100 words a minute when she was working," Carrie stated to SWNS, per People. Without a doubt, this guy thinks the world of his wife.

"He is turning 80 in May, and I think he is also a very brave man for stepping into a hair college and asking for lessons on styling hair. I don't think too many men would do that," she continued. She also said that both he and his wife have been back to visit, and her hair is looking great.

This is a simple act, if you think about it. And that may be why this man is overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and emotion. He simply saw an opportunity to help, and he took it. And he wasn't afraid to learn more skills and ask questions. It's a big lesson for everyone.

For one, it proves that people are constantly growing. Age shouldn't be a reason as to why someone can't improve on a skill or learn a new one. All it took was him asking, and now he's able to provide a service for his wife, who is likely so grateful to have one slice of "normalcy" back in her routine.

It's also proof that knowing how to style hair is a great skill to have. Even if you don't plan on working at a salon anytime soon, taking lessons can be quite beneficial. Hair can be very personal to people, so knowing the best ways to make it look beautiful is a blessing.

While this gentleman preferred in-person instructions — which often works better for people — there are also plenty of free tutorials online. You can get better at doing hair and makeup by watching celebrities or experts explain it through video. But the gentleman showing up at the school is quite classy.

Hopefully, this act inspires more men to learn. Even if they prefer to keep their hair on the short side, they may have daughters or sons — or perhaps an aging wife one day — who will benefit from their knowledge and skills. The more you try to expand your hair care knowledge, the easier it'll be.

It's true acts like this that showcase love. It's a gesture that says, "I care and I want you to be the best and happiest version of yourself every day." If more husbands had this dedication, the world would be an even more beautiful place.
