Naomi Campbell is officially a mom! The 50-year-old supermodel and actress announced via Instagram that she has given birth by sharing a sweet photo of her new baby's tiny feet cupped by her hand.
"A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother," she captioned the the post. "So honoured to have this gentle soul in my life there are no words to describe the lifelong bond that I now share with you my angel. There is no greater love."
Naomi seems completely thrilled by the birth of her baby. While she definitely took her time, she has always maintained that she would have kids when the time was right. She just didn't feel the pressure to have kids on anyone else's timeline.
Naomi has spoken about just that many times over the years. Most recently in October 2019, she told the Wall Street Journal that she wasn't quite ready. "Not yet — I'll see what the universe brings me," she said.
Well, it seems the time was finally right for Naomi. While it's totally possible to have a baby at 50, not many people do it. Her choice will likely play a role in breaking the stigma surrounding giving birth later in life. The news will definitely have a lot of people talking, too, because there can be a lot of obstacles to overcome when you're trying to conceive past a certain age.
People will undoubtedly have questions about how the process was for Naomi. But it looks like everything turned out beautifully, as her healthy baby has arrived. Her friends and family are also thrilled by the little one's birth.
Close friend Marc Jacobs commented on the photo, writing, "Oh my God!!!!! Today is the day?? How absolutely incredible. How lucky she is and how lucky you are! What a wonderful Mother you will be. Blessings all around."
Zoe Saldana also sent her congratulations to the new mom. She wrote, "❤️❤️❤️ oh my goodness congrats lady! What a blessing!!!"
While the birth of Naomi's baby may come as a shock to some people, it seems like it was totally in her life plan to have a family when she felt ready. In 2017, she told Evening Standard that she absolutely wanted kids. "I think about having children all the time," she said. "But now with the way science is I think I can do it when I want."
Having a baby at any age can bring about a ton of challenges. But there is also something to be said for waiting until you feel absolutely ready to take the plunge. Of course, Naomi has a lot of resources and will be able to give her child everything she needs. So people should really hold their tongues when it comes to judging her choice to wait.
Aside from the fact that Naomi was certainly ready for motherhood, she also clearly takes amazing care of herself. She may be 50, but she looks to be about 25. Age really is just a number, friends.
