Have you ever been driving in a car, minding your own business, listening to Dolly Parton, Genesis, or N.W.A. on the radio when — BOOM! — it hits you. You forgot something. It can be a pair snow boots on a winter day, an extra towel on your way to the beach, or your From Genesis to Revelation CD on your way to a Phil Collins concert. And when it happens…boy, is it a land of confusion.
Should you turn around? Keep going? Stop at a store and buy a new version? No. Don’t do that, you already own it. That’s just throwing money away. Turn around, go home, and get it. But you’re almost to your destination. AH! DECISIONS!
Don’t you just wish you had everything you could possibly ever need already in your car? Everything! From the practical — like a spare tire, crank, snacks, and a few extra blankets in case a passenger gets chilly or sleepy — to the possible-but-not-very-likely, like a coffee press…or a pop-up book?
And wouldn't it be cool if there was a bed in the car as well?!
Well, now you can — thanks to an ingenious innovation designed by Reddit user tylerthompson21. All you need is a few pieces of wood, screws, a truck, and a whole lot of imagination!
First, take some wood…
…and build a frame in the bed of a truck.
The frame is bolted together with angle iron for easy removal.
Old skateboard bearings were used. They can handle a lot of weight.
The frame is filled with a wooden box, which is the size of the bed of the truck.
This part of the project is complete, but there’s SO much more…
A battery is added to the box.
A switch is also mounted to the dash of the truck. It’s just to the left of the steering column.
A top is added to the truck, and it’s revealed that the box is actually a pull-out drawer, which is activated by the switch on the dash.
A bed pad is added to the top of the box, so the driver can actually live in their car. Genius!
…Or they can just keep everything they will ever need in this car and have the option to sleep in it instead of renting motels while on the road.
