I absolutely adore looking at old pictures.
I love the graininess of photos from the 1960s through ’80s, before printed pictures became sleek and glossy. I also enjoy the feeling of being able to hold old photos in my hand instead of just seeing them on a screen.
But we all know the real appeal of looking at old photos is being able to reminisce about the past while comparing how people look then and now — and it’s especially fun when said pictures are of people we love like a relative or friends we’ve grown up with our whole lives.
It’s why photographic recreations, in which someone re-shoots an old photo in the present day using the exact same pose and location are so satisfying to see. It’s fun to see how people have aged, yet are exactly the same person they were in the original photo.
Case in point, a Reddit user named magic976, posted a series of photos his parents took to celebrate their 40th anniversary. They decided to recreate two images from their rock and roll, motorcycle-riding 1975 wedding — and they’re remarkably adorable. After looking at these, I couldn’t stop smiling. It’s just so wonderful to see two people spend so many years together and be as in love as they were the day they got hitched…
This is the couple on their wedding day in 1975.
This is the couple recreating the same image, almost a half a century later on their 40th wedding anniversary.
They’re even wearing the same wedding outfits! The wife made both her husband’s wedding jacket and her dress. That’s right — they both still fit into those same threads 40 years later!
According to the couple’s son, his father “was smooth.”
Apparently, “They met in a bar called 'The Lower Level' and his first words to her were 'You wanna Boogie?' ”
Now if that wasn't the start to a great love story, I don't know what is!
