I'll try just about any food delivery service once. Typically, I try it once and never go back. Why? Because they're expensive, and more often than breaking the bank, sometimes the food goes to waste. Especially if the service is delivering me a bag of ingredients that I have to, ya know, actually cook. Try as I might, I'm just not going to cook nice meals every night, whether I'm alone or my kids are here. I need simple in order to survive the workweek.
However, I just tried Freshly meals, and I can tell you right now that I'm about to place another order. Because not only were the meals delicious, I also didn't have to cook them. Yes — they're microwaveable and heat up in three minutes. But don't let that deter you, because they're incredibly scrumptious and also super fresh.
And less time in the kitchen makes for a happy mom, and my kids didn't hate them, either.
Don't believe me about how great they are? Well, fine then. More for me.
Seriously, though, Freshly was kind of a lifesaver. I ordered a bunch of meals, having absolutely no idea what to pick or what would be good. But right away, I liked how much variety there was.
I opted to test the meals out on a night when my kids were with their dad in case the food wasn't that great. I didn't feel like hearing complaints — not to mention, it was an easy dinner to make for just me on a solo night. First up, I tried the Sausage Baked Penne.
I can't tell you how pleasantly surprised I was. The meal was pretty bomb. I scarfed it down happily while watching the evening news, and my stomach was not mad about it. I couldn't wait to try more meals!
A few nights later, I decided to let my kids each pick out a meal to try. One of my kids happens to be a picky eater, and the other will eat just about anything. Still, even though he eats anything, he's hard to impress. My picky eater ate her meal without any complaints. My easy eater told me I was the "best mom ever" after dinner. Clearly, they were both satisfied.
Now that I know I'm going back for more, I'm spending more time on the website picking out the meals I really loved. While I didn't hate any of the meals, there are ones I'm totally salivating over, like the Beef Bolognese. It was so freaking delicious, and I totally did not care that the shells were made of cauliflower. I'd happily eat it on the regular.
I also really like that you can choose meals based on your diet preferences. There are FreshlyFit meals that are the most healthy options, Takeout Twists, Classics, and more. This time, I'm going to choose all FreshlyFit meals with the hopes of getting in shape for spring. It's not often that I can eat healthy microwaveable meals that I actually really enjoy, but Freshly is about to help me out there big time.
Yes, Freshly comes with a cost, but for me, it's more than worth the investment. I feel like the fact that the meals actually all got eaten and nothing went to waste is a huge financial win in the first place. But Freshly is also pretty reasonably priced.
There are different meal plans to choose from, so the price is based on how many meals per week you order. The plans go from four meals per week up to 12 meals per week. Since I'm really only eating the meals for dinner, I'm opting for the four-meal plan, which comes out to $11.49 per meal. Not too shabby — and definitely cheaper than ordering takeout.
I truly can't wait to get my next order. While my kids loved them and so did I, the real joy of this food service is that I know there are so many healthy options and they don't take any time at all. It seriously makes my hectic evenings so much easier. That's something this single mom considers a big win all around.
I highly recommend you give it a try. Your stomach and your lower stress level will thank you.
