Alanis Morissette Says Her Marriage ‘Just Keeps Getting Deeper’ On 11th Anniversary

If you're still stuck on the fact that Alanis Morissette once dated Dave Coulier, you're not alone. In fact, that trivia might make you forget that Alanis has been happily taken for many years. The iconic '90s singer began dating Mario "Souleye" Treadway in 2009, and they wasted no time with making it official.

The wedding happened in 2010 at their home. They had a small, intimate ceremony right before Alanis turned 36 years old. Since, they've had three children together.

"So happy to share with you that my man Souleye and I got married," Alanis said back in 2010, per People. "We're very excited to embark on this journey with each other….sending love…connect soon xo – Alanis." And that journey is still in progress, as Alanis seems happier than ever.

Alanis celebrated the big anniversary with a sweet post on Instagram. "11 years. just keeps getting deeper, @souleye #dreamhusband #iloveyou #happyanniversaryangel," she wrote on Instagram. She shared a sweet picture of the two of them together, which was also the shot he chose to use to publicly acknowledge the day.

His caption was also quite sweet. "Happy Anniversary Sweetheart cheers to 11 million more years together xoxo #mylove #anniversary #queen," he wrote. It's good to know that both of them seem happy, stable, and more in love than ever before.

The story of how they met is actually quite intriguing. The two reportedly met at a meditation gathering. Meditation is still a big part of both of their lives, and they even have a room in their house dedicated to it. The ability to clear the mind has so many benefits. It likely helps the couple maintain a strong relationship.

When they connected, Alanis admits that she knew he was the person she was meant to be with. "I would date people, and there would be something about me that would hit a brick wall with whomever I was sitting across from," she told Oprah Winfrey during an interview, per HuffPost. "And with Souleye, when I first met him, I could see that there was this limitless to where we could go."

Her devotion to him even scared her a little. "I was even a little scared thinking, 'Oh, God, I'm going to be going into territories that are outside of my jurisdiction and outside of my comfort zone if I hang out with this person," she continued. "You remind me of a composite of my whole family and this will get really interesting and really challenging and really beautiful."

So, who is Souleye? He's also a musician, and the two of them have worked together on a couple of musical projects since tying the knot. It's a partnership that Souleye appreciates. "Not only does she inspire me as an artist, but she ceaselessly fluffs my ego," he told Fuse. "She is also hilarious so we were having a blast together."

Without a doubt, Alanis — who knows a thing or two about breakups — knows that relationships take a lot of work in order to be successful. It's something two people constantly work on. "Relationships go from infatuation to power struggle and then most people break up," she said at the Elle USA Women in Concert Celebration, per People.

Speaking up at the event just last year, she noted where she and Souleye currently fell. "I think it's getting juicy as we're going on the third phase of helping each other heal and grow," she said. She also said that the two like to keep the spark alive by flirting. It's excellent advice.

When you flirt with your spouse, you're showing that you're still interested in them and willing to spice things up. It's one of the fun stages of a new relationship, and shouldn't be snuffed out after marriage. "Flirting is nice … dates, gifts and compliments," Alanis said.

Alanis also pours a lot of her real life into her music. While it's a good thing that she's not writing new heartbreak albums like Jagged Little Pill based on her own happiness, her life is still reflected through song quite a bit. "Music lyrics are written usually within 15 minutes: It takes 45 years to live the song, 15 minutes to have it come out," she acknowledged.

It's safe to say that Souleye will have a lot of influence over her latest songs. Even on Instagram, she's not afraid to talk about the true level of support he brings to the table on a daily basis.

"This man," she wrote on a post. "Supporting me through PPD. Through parenting. Through trauma recovery. Through artistic processes. Through navigating ALL. Laughing, nurturing, investigating. Responsibility and wild fun and mundanity. I love him with all of my bones."

Throughout all of this time, Hollywood's most in-love couple may have been in front of us this entire time. It seems like Alanis and Souleye were taken with each other from the day they met, and they have only increased the intensity of their relationship ever since. Hence, why "just keeps getting deeper" is such a perfect statement to celebrate 11 years.
