An Australian reality show contestant is opening up about a DIY procedure gone horribly wrong.
Tilly Whitfield decided to tell her followers why she often appeared with a blue face mask during her time on Big Brother Australia. She explained that she was treating scarring caused by an attempt to give herself freckles.
DIY beauty treatments are big on TikTok, and Tilly said that had inspired her to attempt it. She attempted the procedure using household items with ink she bought off eBay. She had no idea how much damage it could cause and is now warning others.
Big Brother Australia contestant Tilly Whitfield is getting honest with her followers. In a recent Instagram post, Tilly shared why she was seen wearing a blue clay face mask in many scenes on the reality series. Many fans had no idea how significant a reason she had.
"For those asking why I have my blue clay face mask on continuously through out the show this is what my face looked like a week prior to entering the house hence why I always have makeup on and my skin is always covered," she shared with a fresh-faced photo.
"This is the result of attempting to remove scarring I inflicted on myself trying to replicate an at home beauty procedure I saw on a tik tok video 2 months before big brother who bloody else would manage to do such a thing."
"Please please don't try any 'DIY' or 'at home' beauty procedures I ended up in hospital with temporary loss of vision in my eye due to swelling and was very sick from the infection, not to mention my face was somewhat unrecognisable," she revealed.
"Leave it to the professionals ✨ thanks @bigbrotherau for being so super cute and supportive #bbau #bigbrotherau"
Tilly never mentions what particular TikTok procedure she attempted, but there are a number of them out there, especially to DIY freckles. In an interview with The New York Times, she explains she used a sewing needle to deposit ink under her skin. She bought the ink off eBay, which ended up being counterfeit.
"It didn't hurt at all, so I didn't think I should stop," Tilly explained.
Commenters were shocked to see the extent of her damage. Later, Tilly elaborated on her explanation.
"This is deep below surface level scaring and dark pigmentation whilst I'm fortunate enough to not have keloid scaring and the surface of my skin is smooth, the pigmentation is very dark and obvious," she wrote.
"I literally shoved needles deep into my skin this is not a rash lol."
Tilly has yet to find a solution to her issue. She's spent $12,000 on different procedures with no luck. The ink cannot be removed with lasers, as the type of ink will only darken with exposure. She's hoping that by speaking out, she can keep her followers from doing the same kinds of things.
