Royal fans have grown used to a particularly sweet tradition. Each year, Prince Wililam and Kate Middleton share a special set of photos to celebrate the birthdays of each of their children. The photos are noteworthy because they are often shot by Kate, making them particularly exclusive and heartwarming.
Prince George will turn 8 on July 22, and many have assumed that means a new set of photos will be shared online. It turns out that just might not be the case this year.
Prince William and Kate recently took Prince George to see England play Italy in the UEFA Euro 2020 finals. The event was obviously public, and many photos were taken of the 7-year-old as he laughed, cheered, and ultimately mourned his team's loss.
Many people shared their reactions to the images of Prince George online, and it turns out the Cambridges are reportedly a little miffed by much of the commentary. Royal writer Angela Levin now claims that the royal parents are considering not sharing any more photos of Prince George because of what people said.
She explained, "There are rumours that we might not see the photograph [of Prince George] when he's eight, because they've been so upset by the rudeness of people mocking a little boy aged seven, and I hope they can overcome that."
However, royal reporter Roya Nikkhah notes that she believes the family chose a particularly creative way to begin easing Prince George into public life by allowing him to be at the match in such a public way: "This is an official duty for Prince George at the age of seven. It's lovely and happy and there's a lot of emotion."
The vast majority of comments were entirely positive, with many fans of the soccer team relating to the various emotions Prince George displayed. It may be that the Cambridges were simply unprepared for what exposure in the digital age might actually mean for the royal family, especially in terms of their children and their own public personas.
