Tori Spelling has caught a lot of flak for her plastic surgery decisions over the years.
Like so many young Hollywood starlets, Tori got a breast augmentation performed in her early 20s. Over the years, she's admitted that she was not well-informed about the surgery and its side effects and wishes she hadn't gotten the procedure done. Critics have noted that her breasts were done sloppily, as illustrated by the gap between them and how they have sagged over 20 years.
Tori has been aware that she needed to get them redone for a long time, but she's admittedly been putting it off. She recently opened up about how her 13-year-old daughter, Stella, has urged her to prioritize the procedure.
Tori Spelling is realizing that taking care of her breast implants is taking care of her health. In November 2021, Tori revealed she was consulting with a plastic surgeon about getting her "expired and recalled implants" removed.
Tori explained the situation to E! News. "I got them when I was really young. And I didn't know that at a certain point they would have an expiration," she shared.
"I didn't know that you would have to do it again."
Tori had debated getting the implants taken out and replaced for years, but she put it off because she felt it was a cosmetic procedure and other things should come first. It was a discussion with her 13-year-old daughter, Stella, that changed her mind.
"It really hit home for me when my daughter came to me and she's like, 'Mom, I'm concerned. You have put this off. You told me for years now that you need to get your boobs redone,'" she shared.
Tori has never disclosed what type of breast implants she has or exactly when she got them done. In 2011, however, the FDA put out an advisory stating that "the longer a woman has silicone gel-filled breast implants, the more likely she is to experience local complications." Those complications can include scarring, rupture, wrinkling, asymmetry, pain, and infection.
Now Tori's seeing it as part of taking care of her overall health.
"But I was like, you know, for health reasons, it's way safer at this point to do it," she said.
"Because there's scar tissue buildup, it puts you out there for having long term things go wrong in your body."
"So when [Stella] said, 'Are you getting it done?' I was like, you know what, why am I not getting it done?" she continued.
"Because my main goal, my kids are my everything. So this year coming up, scheduling that surgery, getting healthy – that is taking the forefront. Because it's OK to put yourself first. In the end, it is for them, anyway."
In a 2016 interview, Tori recalled what it was like when Stella first found out her mom had gotten a boob job in her 20s.
"People are obsessed with me getting my breast implants removed because they're recalled and expired," Tori said at the time.
"[Stella] said, 'Huh, your boobs aren't real?' I was like, 'Oh my God.' It was like Santa Claus. I didn't know what to do."
"I said, 'I'm so sorry you heard that. No, they're not. I have breast implants,'" she shared.
"[Stella] said, 'I thought your boobs were real. I just didn't know. They look real.' I said, 'God bless you. They really don't. They're like the worst ever.'"
Tori will undergo surgery at the end of February. Tori is replacing the implants but said that despite going a bit bigger, they will look smaller.
"The sizing I'm getting is a little bit bigger but it won't look it," she shared in a SiriusXM interview.
"So they'll actually look smaller but filled out more. I need a lift, that's what he said. They pick them up and measure where it should be and he's, like, 'They're falling here, they should be here.'"
