Angelina Jolie is pretty active on Instagram, and she's letting fans in on her life as a mom.
The actress only joined the platform in August 2021, but since, she's used it well. Recently, Angelina shared moments from two different but equally important endeavors of hers. The first was in Washington, DC, where Angelina was joined by 17-year-old daughter Zahara to advocate for victims of domestic abuse.
More recently, Angelina traveled to Cambodia and brought along 15-year-old Shiloh. There, she met with "friends and colleagues at MJP Foundation," her team at the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation in the Samlot district.
Angelina Jolie holds Cambodia close to her heart. The 46-year-old takes care to give back to the communities of Cambodia. She recently took a trip there to meet with "friends and colleagues at MJP Foundation in Samlot district." By her side was 15-year-old daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.
"A few days in Cambodia among the warm local people, and I feel my soul is recovering. This has always been a special country for me and our family," she wrote of the trip.
Angelina founded the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation in 2003 to alleviate extreme rural poverty, protect the environment, and conserve wildlife in rural northwestern Cambodia, one year after adopting her son from the area.
Angelina is also doing advocacy work at home in the United States. In December, she and 17-year-old daughter Zahara visited Washington, DC, to work with advocates and lawmakers on the modernization of the Violence Against Women Act. They aim to include new protections for children's health and safety, communities of color, tribes, LGBTQ survivors, and more.
The mother and daughter returned to DC on February 9. There, they attended the Senate's bipartisan introduction of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA).
"Heading into the Senate's introduction of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act, I'm grateful and humbled to join with dedicated advocates and legislators," Angelina wrote when sharing a photo from the trip.
"I'm also glad to share in the advocacy with Zahara — and for her presence to calm my nerves before today's press conference."
VAWA was first passed in 1994. The law created provisions for federal-level prosecution of interstate domestic violence and sexual assault crimes. It also provided support to shelters, rape crisis centers, and other community organizations. It was reauthorized in 2012 but allowed to expire in 2018.
"Standing here, at the center of our nation's power, I can think only of everyone who's been made to feel powerless by their abusers [and] by a system that fails to protect them," Angelina shared at the beginning of her address.
"When there is silence from a Congress too busy to renew the Violence Against Women Act for a decade, it reinforces that sense of worthlessness," she continued.
"You think, 'I guess my abuser is right. I guess I'm not worth very much.' That's why passing this law is one of the most important votes U.S. senators will cast this year."
It's fascinating to watch Angelina's kids, who have grown up before our very eyes, take on so much of the important work that she's dedicated herself to. Many of Hollywood's kids go after the glitz and glam and not the substance, but the Jolie-Pitt kids are not your average Hollywood kids.
